Festival of Man 2011 - Semi-Final 1
(L-R, click for bigger) the final whistle blows; Welsh anthem, awesome as always; CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE BETWEEN THIERRY DUSAUTOIR AND MARC LIÈVREMONT omg France is so dysfunctional I love them; Mike Phillips and George North after Phillips scores the only try of the match; SAM WARBURTON MAKES A HUGE MISTAKE; Dan Lydiate and Luke Charteris post-match; Vincent ‘LOL I CAN’T BELIEVE HE WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO DROP ME ON MY HEAD EITHER!’ Clerc; the French love flows after the final whistle.
France 9 - 8 Wales
omg I am ROLLING that the French are in the final, this is legit the most hilarious thing I could have hoped to happen. Of the Northern Hemisphere teams in the quarters, they were the one I was rooting for, BUT THAT I LEAST EXPECTED TO MAKE IT. D. E. A. D. A lot has been said about whether or not they deserve to be in the final, given their oddly flat and un-Gallic performance in the semi, on top of the fact that they lost TWO pool matches (including to Tonga lol still not over that). If they somehow manage to beat the All Blacks on Sunday (god knows they’re capable of doing it) then the questions will only continue, but you know what, I’ll be fucked if ANY team is able to make the RWC final without deserving to be there. When you consider the substantial internal disorder in the team, and the fact that their coach is completely batshit, I think the circumstances of their tournament can be viewed in a whole new light. The manner in which they made the final, with Warburton’s sinbinning, has also been discussed at length, but tbh it was a deserved red in my opinion. Yes, sending him off so early effectively ruined the game, but the rules are daaaaaamn clear on lifting in tackles, and everyone knows the potential consequences - the moment Warburton lifted up Clerc he was the only person to blame. Even if it could have been considered a yellow (maybe….) Warburton is still the only one to blame - in making the tackle, he puts his (and his team’s) fate in Alain Rolland’s hands, and he can’t complain about the outcome. On top of this, the fact that the Welsh missed so many kicks (whilst Parra made ALL of the French kicks…) means that they really can’t blame anyone but themselves. The French did all that they needed to in order to make the final, and that’s all that matters tbh.
